Dressing for date night in the winter is tricky—putting together an outfit that makes you feel like the best version of yourself but won't leave you freezing can be a perplexing task. The little dress or pretty top you reach for during the warmer months just won't cut it in the wind, rain, or snow, so there's a lot to consider when selecting an outfit. My calculations usually go something like, Does this look chic with tights? Is it flattering with boots or pumps? And of course the most important question of all, Can I wear a coat over this?
As you can see, there's a long list of criteria when it comes to what to wear on a winter date night. After much trial and error, I've found it easiest to stock up on certain staple items that will streamline the process. Items like sheer tights, sleek knee-high boots, fitted turtlenecks, and chic slingbacks act as the building blocks to an elevated evening look. Since we're heading into the start of the season, I'm looking to refresh my date-night capsule wardrobe and figured I'd share my findings along the way.
